LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Lawyers for ExxonMobil Pipeline Company have asked a judge to dismiss a federal lawsuit about an oil spill in central Arkansas.
Attorneys for the Irving, Texas-based company on Friday filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit that state and federal officials filed in June.
State and federal authorities want a judge to find that ExxonMobil broke the law when a pipeline failed at Mayflower on March 29 and spilled thousands of barrels of crude oil in a neighborhood and nearby waterway.
They're also seeking civil penalties, costs and damages.
Lawyers for ExxonMobil say state and federal officials failed to state a claim for which relief can be granted.
